5.1 MATERIAL USED FOR FABRICATION OF CHASSIS
For any product in manufacturing, the material using for making the product must meet the design specifications and must withstand all the odds that come across its application and operations. The integrity of a design can be ensuring only after a systematic material section procedure. Otherwise, the result it is high susceptible for failure. The great design my fail in the actual working in environment when the appropriate material is not selected so there are several areas where selection of material is inevitable but it is becoming even important in this highly competitive industrial arena.
ERW PIPES
ERW i.e. electric resistence welded carbon in making the chassis part. This pipes were chosen because of the high weight to strength ratio and these pipes make up a light robust base for the chassis.
ERW(electric resistence welding) pipes are manufactured by cold forming of steel coil into a round cylinder shape. In the initial times it was done with the low frequency A.C current to heat the edges. Now ,pipes are made using the low frequency process changed to high frequency A.C current to produce a higher quality weld. ERW pipes have various applications like fencing, line pipe, scaffolding etc. ERW steel pipes are available in various diameters, wall thickness, finish and grades.
ERW is made of very fine hard steel. While manufacturing ERW steel pipes, only high quality, continuous-cast, fully skilled, control-rolled, fine grain, low –carbon steel is used. High performance ERW steel pipe are tubing posses high strength corrosion resistence, high deformability, high strength and high toughness.
The ERW is mainly composed of mild steel that makes the component strong enough to withstand all sorts of vibrations, shocks, and sudden impact loads. Though by nature mild steel is not fragile that causes hassles on al long run.
