Backing plates
The backing plate provides a base for the other components. It attaches to the axle sleeve and provide a non-rotating rigid mounting surface for the wheel cylinder, brake shoes and hardware. Since all the backing operations exert pressure on the backing plates, it must be strong and wear-resistant.
