LUBRICATION
Typically the lubricant to surface friction is must less than surface friction in a system without any lubrication. Thus use of a lubricant reduces the overall system friction. Reduced friction has benefit of reducing heat generation and the reduces formation of wear particles as well as improved efficiency. Lubrication may contain additives know as friction modifies that chemically bind to metal surface to reduces surface friction even when there is in sufficient bulk lubricant present for hydrodynamic lubrication.
A lubricant is a substance introduced to reduce friction between surface in mutual contact, which ultimately reduces the heat generated when the surface move.
